Speakers Series – Anne Dublin Streaming

Prolific Toronto author, Anne Dublin, enjoys a well-earned reputation for award-winning books enjoyed by young adults and older readers alike. Much of her success has been in the area of little-known stories of the past, an example of which can be found in her book Bobbie Rosenfeld: The Olympian Who Could Do Everything – the topic of her illustrated program for sports fans, athletes, and history buffs. Bobbie Rosenfeld, named a Sports Hall of Famer in 1949, was the unanimous choice of Canadian sportswriters and broadcasters as Canada’s greatest female athlete of the half-century. An early love of sports found her winning trophies in an exceptionally wide array of sports. In the 1928 Olympics, the first year that women were allowed to compete in track and field events, she won both gold and silver medals. The discovery of severe arthritis led to her retirement from competitive sports in 1933, however a new career direction found her quickly becoming a much-admired sportswriter with the Globe and Mail. Perhaps most importantly, Rosenfeld was known for her sense of fair play, and in her life-time she became the role model for thousands of young Canadian girls pursuing their own athletic goals. Books available, author signing.
